BMW has unveiled its official racing wheelchair designed specially for U.S. Paralympics Track and Field Team. During the design process, BMW designers worked in close collaboration with Team USA athletes and coaches, the result is an innovative racing wheelchair ready to make its competitive debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
This new racing wheelchair features beautiful aesthetics along with advanced engineering that displays automaker’s signature vehicle design. Displaying BMW’s core fundamentals as well as competencies, this project boasts modernized aerodynamic efficiencies, it uses carbon fiber material with complete chassis redesign, also a personalized approach for customized athlete fit.
Brad Cracchiola, Associate Director, BMW Group DesignWorks, says that working on this project allows his team to experience unique opportunity to build a fully customized racing device. The partnership with Team USA for over 6 years has been a remarkable journey, but the most rewarding experience would be the direct collaboration with the athletes. For the next few months, together with Team USA athletes, BMW would continue to adjust and improve the wheelchair in the lead up to the Games.
